A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
