Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
