Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees came together over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to support public safety in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Policy Adjustments
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident led the administration to suspend refugee claims and cease issuing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with his relatives.
Impact of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” he told the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
