Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:

  • Every squad includes only 8 real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players looking for different ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
