British tennis star Emma Raducanu wraps up her season and will keep trainer through next year.
The British player advanced to round three in three out of four Grand Slams during the season.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu will not compete in her remaining competitions of the year because of the illness that has affected her for the last week and a half.
Raducanu, aged 22 was due to play in events in Asia but has decided to fly home to rest and recuperate prior to beginning next year's training.
Those preparations will include her coach Francisco Roig, as the pair will keep partnering in 2026.
Raducanu required blood pressure checks while playing the initial match versus Ann Li in Wuhan last week and retired when behind 6-1 4-1 on a very muggy occasion.
She needed once more a visit from the doctor at the recent Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in the first round.
Raducanu was also moving noticeably restricted in the deciding set versus Zhu because of the lower back problem that has affected her on several occasions in 2025.
Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which she climbed into the world's top 30 after a long gap for the first time since 2022, finished with a trio of defeats.
Raducanu had three match points prior to falling to Pegula in the third round in Beijing last month.
Raducanu won 28 victories during 2025 and reached the semi-finals in Washington, but her standout performance was at the Miami event in March.
As Britain's top player made the last eight of a premier WTA event, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed during the tournament before losing in three sets to the world number four Pegula.
She worked with trainer Mark Petchey from Miami until Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role for the US Open.
The initial agreement with the former trainer of Nadal was for the remainder of the year but they will keep working together, with planned training sessions for the end of the year.
She mentioned that the trial session alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.
The player was close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati during August.
Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she advanced to round three before being beaten by Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
