Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting With Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their maiden World Series after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Down 3-1, Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the anticipated championship.

"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now connected for twenty-three post-season home runs, making him third all-time behind Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that situation besides Springer with his playoff prowess," said Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the sole team never to appear in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" in the wake of his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he added.

Toronto won the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
