The Renowned Musician Urges Support to Send Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign hopes to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It has a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down in the wake of a major charity concert held in September. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the performance was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of musicians featured on Lullaby features a range of prominent voices from the music world. All took part in the September show, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was crafted by a group of producers and composers. The track blends a fusion of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the campaign have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These donations will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was noted for its profound destruction, with a vast majority of infrastructure said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a few million won't make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from later in the month.
