Ways the Denver Broncos and their malleable quarterback could end that Kansas City Chiefs' dominance.

Week six of the 2025 NFL season

Real-time updates includes live text for Sunday's games via various channels, starting with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Also, audio coverage is available through select stations for another key matchup (beginning at 9 PM BST).

We're in the sixth week in the NFL season , following last week's discussion regarding the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles being possible championship contenders, each surrendered their perfect starts.

Striking in those games was the amount of infractions each conceded. Philadelphia committed them at crucial times meaning they essentially beat themselves having led 17-3 going into the final quarter versus Denver, who play in London this Sunday.

However it was positive to observe that Denver's QB the rookie was able to overcome that deficit and then lead three successful possessions in three attempts in the fourth quarter, securing the victory by four points.

Denver boast the top defender in CB Pat Surtain II. They are number one in red zone defence, while the Eagles lead the league in scoring near the end zone, yet Denver prevailed in that battle.

They had effective strategies in terms of disguised blitzes. They did not necessarily sending more than four pass rushers but they could position two linebackers in the interior before drop them out and dispatch a slot defender off the edge.

At the start in the campaign, it was noted on a program that the Broncos might emerge as the current year's dark horses. They finished last season well then excelled in continuing that momentum.

Are the Denver Broncos this season's underdog story?

Recently acquired tight end Evan Engram has excelled significantly and recent running back their rusher is a guy the team trusts. He's currently fifth league-wide in ground gains (over 400) as well as tied-fourth for rushing touchdowns (4).

I love how head coach the Broncos' leader has "RUN IT!" at the top on his call sheet.

That shows how the Broncos are a team that wants to prioritize the run, since one can do a lot based on that approach. It reduces opposing rushes and keeps you in positive down and distances.

This has helped QB Bo Nix, who entered the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick last year, passing for 29 touchdown passes – second only to a star QB for the rookie record (31 in 2020).

Other elite QBs have the arm strength to pass anywhere, however they lack in the same way as Nix. He boasts exceptional passing ability, a unique trait, plus he's so athletic.

His strengths are his movement, being able to pass while moving, as well as finding varied release points to make throws when he rolls out of the pocket, the bootlegs. He can deliver precision throws over the middle or over the corner.

As a rookie QB, at 25, he displays a lot of composure in the pocket and isn't bothered by extra rushers. He aims to avoid being tackled whenever possible and is able throw under pressure. He has sharp intelligence and remains very decisive.

If you constantly rush it consumes time and makes the opponent to stay in play extended periods, and if you've got a mobile QB the defence has to cover the field vertically side to side. It can be exhausting.

The quarterback has pushed back at Payton during games sometimes and it seems Payton likes that fire, that he's such a competitor. I think it's exciting for him to have a rookie QB that is kind of like play-dough. He can really develop him the way he desires to shape him. I think it's a unique opportunity for the coach.

The head coach has won a Super Bowl and has surpassed a legend for career NFL wins (173, tying for 14th). He has witnessed it all. In my opinion the success Denver are experiencing on offence is mostly due to his guidance, his schemes, his situational awareness – and the combination with the QB helps shape him what he is.

You wouldn't want a better guy in your ear, to assist you during difficult moments and build confidence.

I believe in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. But are they strong enough to go against a top squad at full strength? Since that was not a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles in their last game.

Currently, it's unlikely Denver are elite. They're working better than most, which is a good place to hold their division. All they need is to continue this trajectory.

They excel at leaning into their forte, which is the ground game, and that's exactly what they should do versus the Jets in London. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.

The Jets have allowed 140 rushing yards each contest (sixth worst), five ground scores this season (in the bottom ten), and they're the sole squad without a win any game.

Ever since the NFL began tracking turnovers in 1933, this team are also the first team to be without any turnovers through five games, this is kind of shocking when you think that the head coach was previously a defensive coach with another team.

Patrick Mahomes says the Chiefs are off to a poor start after Monday's defeat by the Jaguars.

Following the upcoming matchup, the Broncos have a smooth-ish schedule until their bye (in week 12) - the Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans plus Las Vegas Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In their division, Kansas City hold a losing record and the Broncos are even with the Chargers at 3-2 meaning they could challenge for the top of the West.

It depends on which form of the Chiefs they meet since Denver {beat|def
